How fast is Invermidas.com's network?
Invermidas.com's
Network Operations Center is "OnNet" with Frontier
Global Center (FGC), which means that we have a direct fiber
optic connection between our Cisco 7200 router and theirs. Being
OnNet with a Tier-1 provider means that we don't link to a backbone,
we are actually on a backbone. We have no phone circuit, and
do not use a Telecom link to get to the Internet; instead, we
have an in-house connection directly to FGC's ATM fiber node,
located a few floors below our servers in the same building.
This fiber optic line can handle the bandwidth of a T3 or an
OC3, and with FGC's Dense Wave Division Multiplexing (DWDM)
technology, it can handle several times the bandwidth of an
OC3.
We
share the digital distribution architecture of FGC, which is
comprised of more than 25 high-speed private peering connections
to major Internet carriers such as MCI, Sprint, UUNET, AT&T,
AOL, Best, Erols, and others. FGC also has high-speed links
to 8 public exchanges including both MAE East and West and several
NAPS. To use an analogy, the private peering connections allow
data to travel from New York to LA on a non-stop flight, while
the public exchanges require a stop over.

Do
you offer dial-up Internet access?
No, you must provide your own Internet access. We would suggest
a provider that offers SMTP (Out going email capability) service
as we do not provide an SMTP service to our customers at this
time.

Do you have a database system?
We use MySQL. We have found that our members prefer MySQL because

Can I access my domain securely?
Yes. Your web site can be accessed securely using SSL (Secure
Socket Layer).

Do you charge additional fees for hosting a secure web site?
No. It is a free standard feature. Invermidas.com members are
able to use a server-wide certificate at no additional cost.
(Having your own SSL certificate does cost extra. You are responsible

Is a shell account included?
We offer a secure shell (SSH) instead of Telnet access. Please

Can I pay with a check or must I use a credit card?
When first establishing your account we ask that you make the
initial payment with a credit card. However we take exceptions
if it is absolutely impossible or impractical for you to utilize
a credit card. After your account is set you can elect to pay
with a personal check, business check, cashier's check, or money
order as long as the amount is drawable in US funds. However
in order to compensate for the additional administrative tasks
and postage expenses, a $2 charge will apply to each billing
cycle. Please note that you can switch your preferred method
of payment anytime without incurring any administrative fees.

does it cost to transfer a domain name?
Currently
the two leading registrant companies (Network Solutions and
Bulkregister) do not charge fees for transfers.

What is CGI access?
CGI scripts (Common Gateway interface) are used to provide things
like counters, form responses, guest books, and many other things.
Invermidas.com gives you full CGI access for no extra charge!
You can write your own scripts, install someone else's, or use
one or all of our preinstalled CGI scripts.

Do you provide a CGI-BIN personal directory?
Yes, a CGI-BIN is provided. You can run your own cgi or perl
scripts on your web site by putting them in your personal cgi-bin
directory. Keep in mind that we do not allow any script or program
that will allow any sort of remote connectivity to your domain.

How long does it take to register my domain?
This process can take up to five (5) days but usually takes
one (1) from the time the registration is submitted. While your
domain is undergoing registration, you can still publish and
view your web site by accessing the ip number assigned. This
number is available in the Welcome Letter you received from
us at the time the account was created.

What is domain parking?
A parked domain is a pointed to an already existing web site.
This is most commonly seen with companies registering "mycompany.com,
mycompany.net, mycompany.org" and all of them going to
the same web site. The cost for parking a domain to your already
existing web site is a one-time twenty ($20) dollar fee, this
does not include the registration of the domain to be parked.

What programs can be used to access e-mail?
All POP clients can be used: Eudora, pine, elm, Netscape mail,
Outlook Express, etc. You can use any program which downloads
the files from our server onto your computer. You cannot use
IMAP programs.

What
is an e-mail alias and is it unlimited?
An e-mail alias means if you send mail to john@yourcompany.com,
that address is aliased to whomever needs to receive it. It
can be one person or multiple people, however you need it structured.
It is unlimited--get as many as you need for no extra charge!

May
I promote my Invermidas.com web site with bulk e-mail?
Spamming is in violation of our service agreement. There are
legal and ethical issues involved in mass mailing of unsolicited
e-mail. Any user of our services who has sent a large number
of unsolicited e-mail will have their account closed within
24 hours.

How can I manage my e-mail users (add/remove/update)?
To add or delete POP boxes, use Mail Manager http://www.yourdomain.com/menu.
You can redirect mail by editing the address, un-forwarding
to the POP box (which deletes it if that's the only reference
to it) and forwarding to whatever e-mail address you desire.

Do I have access to my own FTP space?
Yes. We provide you with your own anonymous ftp area where you
can share files with your customers or friends.
